Patrol Division

The patrol division is the backbone of the police department and responds to a variety of different calls for service. The calls patrol officers respond to range from the simple to complex to sometimes awkward and only limited by the imagination. Examples of calls include, but certainly not limited to: walk-in reports to the police station, accidents/crashes, medical calls, fires, elder and juvenile investigations, school incidents, self-initiated motor vehicle stops, business checks, domestic violence reports, serious calls involving weapons/drugs, and other dangerous situations.

In a majority of the cases, officers on patrol are the first person on scene of these incidents and have to assess potential danger in seconds, calling for the nessesary support to respond. Often times, officers locate the incidents during their patrol of the Town before any 911 call is placed to the department. Due to the variety of situations they encounter during their careers, officers are well versed in handling and assessing these calls and what is needed to bring an incident to sucessful resolution.

At the current time, the department operates three shifts, Midnight to 8AM, 8AM to 4PM, and 4PM to Midnight. Staffing includes (4) four Sergeants, one per shift and a days/evening split shift, along with (13) Police Officers.
