Welcome Welcome to the Millbury Police Department's D.A.R.E. web site. This site is intended to inform the Millbury community, especially parents and students, about the Millbury Project D.R.E.A.M. program, formerly known as the Millbury Police D.A.R.E. program. We hope you find the site informative and we look forward to any additions or changes you might suggest. Program History The Millbury Police Department started it's D.A.R.E. program in 1993 under the direction of Sergeant Stephen Webb and in conjuction with the Millbury School Department. The program, in which police officers would be used in the schools to teach a drug education, was totally funded by the Millbury business community from it's inception. The program at this time was the nationally know D.A.R.E. program. In preparation for the program, Seargent Webb attended and graduated from the Massachusetts Criminal Justice Training Council's D.A.R.E. core curriculum. Through the years the D.A.R.E. program grew with such a success that additional officers were used. What we learned was that the youth needed more than just one program a year in elementary schools. We needed to keep in touch by enforcing good decision making practices. Since there were specific guidelines to follow, Project D.R.E.A.M. began. Approximately 200 sixth graders benefit from the program's formal instruction each year, at no cost to the town. The instructors also visit students in kindergarten through grade 4. The program has become completely self supporting and is an accepted, integral part of the school system's curriculum. In addition to educating students in school, the program has supported summer camps, sporting teams, and organized activities, such as rock climbing lessons, which boost self confidence and esteem. The D.A.R.E. curriculum is a major component of what is now known as Millbury Police Project D.R.E.A.M. The program pools the resources of family, the Police Department, schools, and community to provide a positive atmosphere for today's youth to grow and thrive. The combined efforts of these resources are changing attitudes in our community about drugs and violence. We hope that this web site gives you more insight into what Project D.R.E.A.M. program and the D.A.R.E. curriculum are doing for our community. ** D.R.E.A.M.** This
D.R.E.A.M. project allows the same contributions from the community
into many more areas. D.R.E.A.M has sponsored athletic teams, SAAD
programs, class trips, scholarship type programs and much more.
D.R.E.A.M. allows educators and officers to keep abreast by receiving
the latest training and it keeps supplies at the schools.
